Selangor Fire Department Director Wan Razali said that the fire department received an alarm at 1:40 pm on the 8th and dispatched 24 firefighters to the scene to control the fire. They arrived at 1:49 and immediately started firefighting.
Preliminary reports showed that a container caught fire first and the container was 100% burned; then the fire gradually spread. Port Klang West quickly started to move the containers. Since the container on fire was 5 stories high, a crane had to be dispatched immediately to move the burning containers one by one to prevent the fire from spreading and affecting other containers, so as to avoid more serious consequences. According to the latest news, a total of 14 40-foot containers were affected and burned in this fire.

Director Wan Razali pointed out that the containers were loaded with unbleached kraft paper, washing machines, vinyl chloride polymers and pine wood. "The fire was under control at 2:39 pm and no casualties were caused." In addition, firefighters from Port Klang, Sungai Pinang, Sri Andalas and Shah Alam fire stations also sent firefighters to support and participate in the firefighting operation. The fire department did not rule out that the fire was caused by the spontaneous combustion of lithium batteries.
Ahmad Mulis, assistant commander of the Selangor Fire Department, told the Daily News on the 9th that firefighters put out the fire of 8 containers on the evening of the 8th, and continued to carry out firefighting operations on the morning of the 9th, putting out the fire of the remaining 6 containers. It is currently in the "repair" stage. The West Port has implemented the isolation container procedure and is monitored by the Fire Department.
In a telephone interview, Fire Department Director Wan Razali said: "The news we received is that the lithium battery contains copper powder. It is believed that the lithium battery placed in the container started to burn, and the fire then spread to other containers."

According to Malaysian media reports on the 10th, West Port Klang confirmed that a fire broke out in the container yard of its port a few days ago. At present, the relevant units are still investigating the cause of the fire and confirming the affected containers. The affected container shipping companies or container operators will be notified in due course. According to news reports, on June 8, a fire broke out in containers at the Westport Klang terminal, and 14 containers were burned. Westport announced on the 10th that at around 1:15 pm that day, a fire broke out in the container yard operated by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Westport Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
"After the port police control center issued a message, the fire rescue team went to the rescue as soon as possible and the fire was under control." Westport said that the company and relevant units will conduct a thorough investigation of the cause and source of the fire. "As of now, the company, the authorities and all parties are still determining the cause of the fire and the impact on the containers involved. Fortunately, there were no casualties and no damage to port equipment in this incident." Westport added that after the accident, the terminal operations were not disturbed and the fire only involved part of the large container yard in Westport.
