The French shipping company has increased the number of ships and deployed larger vessels in the Mediterranean compared to a year ago. Cma CGM currently operates 60 vessels with a total capacity of more than 96,000 TEUs in the Mediterranean region, with an additional six vessels added this year. The average capacity of the CMA CGM deployed fleet has increased from 1,433 TEUs last year to 1,677 TEUs this year.
At present, the Marseilla-based container shipping company has a market share of 19.9% within the Mediterranean region, second only to MSC's 22%. Alphaliner observed that CMA CGM is struggling to respond to the trend of carriers to reduce risk in the Mediterranean. MSC's market share will fall from 24% in 2022 to the current 22%, while Danish operator Maersk's market share within the Mediterranean region will fall from 15% in 2022 to the current 11% after cutting more than 10,000TEU.

With the opening of the Greece-Turkey-Libya, Turkey-Libya and Greece-Turkey-Poti routes, CMA CGM has launched three new Mediterranean routes, increasing its capacity by 11,000 TEUs.

Alphaliner noted that CMA CGM has historically had an important position in the field of services to and from North Africa, especially in the Maghreb region (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya). The French shipping company deploys 87.3 percent of its total capacity in the Mediterranean region to service at least one Maghreb port. Compared to a year ago, the capacity of CMA CGM ships to the Maghreb increased by 40.4%.
