The Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) has recently cracked a major suspected shipment of solid methamphetamine, in which about 1.1 tonnes of suspected methamphetamine were seized. According to Hong Kong Customs, this is the largest case of solid methamphetamine that has been detected in the past year.
The details of the incident are as follows:
During the routine inspection of the customs on October 26 this year, a batch of fake seashells was found in 611 bags of Marine containers, and after inspection, it was found that 104 nylon bags of fake seashells contained suspected methamphetamine, and attempted to transport and sell them through real and fake seashells.

At present, customs officials have arrested four suspects, focusing on three men and one woman, respectively, a 27-year-old unemployed man, a 54-year-old warehouse manager, a 60-year-old male driver and a 46-year-old logistics company manager. Although this batch of seafood information is complete, but because the shipper's address is not a fish shop but a residential address in Mexico, which caused the concern of customs staff, who knew that such a check, in 611 bags of seafood found 104 bags with abnormal seafood, through X-ray to see other items in the shell confused people. Seeing this situation, the customs officers immediately carried out further inspection, and the results found dozens of shells with inconsistent shapes and sizes after opening the bag inspection. The difference between normal shells and the naked eye was not large, but the feel was different. The shell was covered with a layer of wax, and the material in the shell was not seafood, but crystalline paper.

After sample examination and drug examination, these crystalline substances are positive, which confirms that these fake shells may be suspected of methamphetamine, and the four related personnel who handle these seafood are suspected of smuggling and drug trafficking, and this case can be said to be the largest suspected case of solid methamphetamine intercepted by Hong Kong Customs in recent years. The case has been taken over by the Customs drug investigation Department to follow up, the official said that the related consignee and shipper as well as logistics companies and freight yards will be thoroughly investigated.
