IMO] The 107th session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 107) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) was held from May 31 to June 9, 2023 at IMO headquarters in London in a combination of online and offline sessions. The meeting established three working groups on Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships ( MASS ), Goal Based Ship Building Standards ( GBS ) and Bunker Oil Safety, as well as a drafting group for the revision of mandatory documents.

Green transformation remains a core potential driver for the shipping market, according to a new review by Clarkson Research. According to Offshore Energy, the company estimates that 44% of the new ship tonnage ordered in the first half of this year uses alternative fuels.

[Delivery] On the morning of July 13, the naming ceremony and signing and delivery ceremony of Vessel No. 8, a 110,000-ton liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel crude oil/products tanker built by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSIC), a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group (CSG), together with China Shipbuilding Trading (CS Trading), was held for BOCOM Gold Chartering.

Used vessels] The value of medium-aged Cape of Good Hope bulk carriers declined this week after recent transactions.
The Cape of Good Hope bulk carrier Agios Charalambous (184,900 DWT, built May 2003 by the former shipyard in Mitsui City, Japan) was sold to an unnamed Indian buyer for $14 million, with a VV pre-sale valuation of $13.5 million.
The Cape of Good Hope bulk carrier Aquamarine (182,100 DWT, built July 2009 by Odense Shipyard, Denmark) was sold to Greek owner New Shipping for $18.25 million at a VV pre-sale valuation of $20.6 million.
The Cape of Good Hope bulk carrier Ocean Cobalt (180,200 DWT, built in July 2008 in Imabari, Japan) was sold to an unnamed Chinese buyer for US$19.5 million (special inspection/docking pass), with a VV pre-sale valuation of US$18.7 million.

Container Ship] On July 14th, Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. and Taizhou Jianxing Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. held a signing ceremony for the construction contract of 4+4 1,000 TEU open top container ships.
