According to the Trans-Baikalsk government, the construction of a 1435mm gauge railway that meets Chinese standards at the Trans-Baikalsk-Manchuria border crossing will increase freight traffic between Russia and China by 15 million tons. The new railway infrastructure is scheduled to be put into operation by the end of 2025.
The construction of new stations and yards at this railway crossing will make it possible to transfer more wagons from standard gauge to wide gauge. The construction of wide and narrow gauge railways will eliminate the differences between Chinese and Russian railway standards, thereby increasing the export of grain goods.

Trans-Baikalsk is the largest Russian port on the Chinese border. It combines road and railway checkpoints. Chinese citizens traveling to the Trans-Baikalsk region and further afield, as well as foreign trade goods to Siberia, mainly pass through this port. Passenger traffic from local Russia comes to the Chinese cities of Manchuria and Hailar through international checkpoints.
According to the Trans-Baikalsk government, the reconstruction of the checkpoint is planned to be carried out in 2025-2027 as part of the national "transportation system development" program. The project is expected to cost $3.56 billion.
